The Odyssey

Monday,March 26, 2007

Dear Class,

As we approach the conclusion of The Odyssey, one can not help but reflect on Odysseus actions throughout the story. Have you begun to sympathize with the men Odysseus slaughtered? Or do you think that Odysseus was justified in his actions? Should Odysseus have been willing to accept their offer or did they deserve death? Blog your thoughts below and be prepared to discuss them in class tomorrow.

 Until then,

Ms. Bush

I do fell bad for the other men, because they were kind to him while he was an old begger. Also they didnt act out of disrespect towards Odyssey. So I think Odyssey should have took their deal and let them be.

I believe that Antinous maybe desirved to be killed by odysseus. I don’t think that the other men desirved to be killed though. I also think odysseus should have accepted their offer instead of killing them.

I think Odysseus was fair because they were all trying to pursue penelope and he was trying the hardest.

    Dear Ms. Bush

I have sympathized with Odysseus in slaughtering the men because they were trying to take his home and his wife. They deserved death because they were just trying to become rich and powerful.

I do sympathize with Odysseus because I feel as though he was justified in his actions. I think they deserved death because of the way they acted towards O dysseus and his family.

I just finished reading what you told us to read, and my predictions for what will happen next in The Odyssey are that Odysseus will try to get back with Penelope but she won’t believe it is Odysseus. He might have to prove it to her somehow.

I don’t sympathize with the men Odysseus slaughtered because they were all trying to blame it on Antinous. I don’t think they deserved death but Odysseus was probably already angry as he was.

In a way I sympathize with all of the men that Odysseus has slaughtered except Antinous because he was the main person who took over the house, he was rude, obnoxious, and was already acting as if he was in charge, so Odysseus had every right to kill him. I think that Odysseus could have been willing to except their offer because that way he wouldn’t have had to replace his things because they would have been replaced for him.

I think that it was right for Odysseus to kkill them because they shouldn’t have been in his house eating his food and trying to steal his wife. So I don’t feel bad for them men. They deserved death.

    Hi,
I am believe that Odysseus was right for his actions. Even if even everyone else wasnt as bad as antinous, just the fact of them staying in his house and eating his food meant they were apart of the problem. Also, i think he killed all of them because he felt he was protecting his family and his home.

In a way I sympathize with all of them men except for Antinous because he was the main person who was trying to take over, he was rude, obnoxious, and he was acting as if he was already in charge, so he deserved being killed. He could have been willing to except their offer because instead of him having to replace all of his things that were used and taken they would have done it for him.

I think Odysseus was right in his actions to slaughter the men in his house. They tried to take over his household and steal his wife just because they thought he was dead. I thought that was very selfish of them, and they deserved what they got. I don’t think he should have accepted their offer and they deserve death

I think i sympathize with the men odysseus slaughtered because i think even thought penelope didnt want a new husband, that she needed one to keep her kingdom safe and in order, but i think that they did deserve death because of all things they did to him while he looked like a beggar.

I agree with Odyseuss because all they wanted to do was to take all of his land by marrying his wife also they might have killed his son. My prediction is that Odyseuss will get his kingdom back and start being apart of his son life

I think odysseus was right for what he did because all he wanted to do was see his wife and his son.

Odysseus did what was best the suitors had minds of their own to not follow by Antinous for all those years then wanna kiss up to Odysseus when they knew what was really going on…… Odysseus did good by killing them all and taking back what was his and not having a heart toward them in th end !!!!!!!!!!

  16.   Daniel Clark on Tuesday,March 27, 2007 5:14 pm

I think Odysseus was justified in his actions because they treated him poorly in his own home. The suitors deserve death trying to pin it on Antinous.

  17.   Bre-Ann on Tuesday,March 27, 2007 5:37 pm

I think that Odysseus had a good reason to do that because that’s his family. But he could’ve let the people leave instead of just killing them

  18.   Aniesha Slater on Tuesday,March 27, 2007 5:55 pm

I think it was right for Odysseus to kill his men because they acted poorly to him and his family. Also they tried to steal Odysseus wife.

  19.   Tyler on Tuesday,March 27, 2007 5:58 pm

sorry this is late but i was having some technical difficulties ( did i spell that right?) anyways i think that odyssues should have definitley killed antinous but i feel as if the other men deserved to at least live and pay him back but not with there lives i think it would have also been a smater desision for odyseus because its bascally money and food in it for him and his family!!

  20.   Dwight on Tuesday,March 27, 2007 7:36 pm

I think that it was right for Odysseus to kill the suitors because they were trying to kill his son, inherit his money, and steal his wife.

  21.   Kesiena on Tuesday,March 27, 2007 8:26 pm

In the beggining i felt like Odysseus had every right to kill the suitors because he came home to a house fulla men that he didn’t know, plus, the men were trying to steal his wife. But then i began to Sympathise with the men because what about the families of the men. Also, all of them were probably not all bad. But Antinous I dont sympathise with. :)

  22.   Gabrielle Gloster on Tuesday,March 27, 2007 9:14 pm

I think the suitors deserved to be killed by Oddysseus. They were trying to take his wife. He wanted to keep his wife so he went to the last resort and that was to kill his competition. I’m sorry this was late but i had some technical difficulties. I do think that there might have been another way to solve this problem but he did not have much time to think.

  23.   MarQuan on Tuesday,March 27, 2007 9:48 pm

odysseus did what he had to do to get his family back, its as simple as that. i would have did the same.

  24.   Ciarra Ross on Wednesday,March 28, 2007 6:36 pm

I sympathize to a certain extent with the men but Odysseus had reason to be angry and want revenge. Payback is not always the right thing to do though. I dont think they deserved death. Punishmnet would have been a better solution because even though they took over his home they were willing to leave.

  25.   David on Wednesday,March 28, 2007 8:41 pm

Hey, if the suitors had to die, that’s what had to happen, they couldn’t stop Odysseus.

  26.   Zach on Saturday,April 21, 2007 8:05 pm

I believe that Odysseus did the right thing because they were trying to take his wife and inherit his money.
